Under certain circumstances and conditions, Medicare will cover costs related to physical therapy (PT) for ​maintenance ​ purposes. In essence, in order for a client to qualify for Medicare-covered maintenance therapy, the individual’s condition must be such that the specialized knowledge or skills of a licensed PT professional are required for safe care and services to slow the progression of the condition, maintain current health and functional status, and/or prevent secondary complications.
